Welcome to MPCG

University of Michigan’s first and only credit organization

About us:
Our mission:
  • The Michigan Private Credit Group (MPCG) is the University of Michigan’s first undergraduate organization focused exclusively on credit—a rapidly expanding and increasingly vital sector within the financial industry. MPCG’s mission is to develop a tight-knit community of intellectually driven students with a strong interest in alternative investments, while equipping them with the technical, strategic, and professional skills necessary to succeed in private credit and adjacent fields.

  • MPCG bridges the gap between academic theory and practical application. Members gain direct experience through structured deal teams, each focused on distinct areas of private credit such as direct lending, distressed debt, mezzanine financing, and special situations. These teams evaluate opportunities and present investment theses to an internal investment committee composed of upperclassmen and alumni, mirroring the institutional investment process.

  • Beyond education, MPCG is committed to meaningful impact. By engaging with small businesses in Ann Arbor and Detroit, the organization applies private credit principles to community-based micro-lending and advisory initiatives. Through this dual focus on professional development and social responsibility, MPCG fosters a deep understanding of private markets and demonstrates how finance can serve the public good.

Our Story:
  • Built by three friends, Colby Stenzler, Jesse Katz, and Jake Zaretsky, with a shared passion for finance and innovation came together to found the Michigan Private Credit Group (MPCG), the University of Michigan’s first undergraduate organization dedicated exclusively to providing Ross students to establish an understanding of credit. Recognizing a gap in exposure for this fast-growing asset class, they built MPCG with a clear mission: to foster a tight-knit, intellectually curious community driven by a commitment to private credit. The founding trio worked to create an organization that combines rigorous education, real-world application, and social impact.

  • Today, MPCG provides students with hands-on deal experience, technical training, and the opportunity to work directly with local businesses—bridging the gap between theory and practice. What began as a shared idea among friends has now grown into a platform shaping the next generation of private credit leaders.
